Revolving Head Assembly
Gravity Lube Channel
Wear Size Gear
NP-8-SA-OS-GL
The gravity lube channel will be machined into the O.D. of the Revolving Head
on the centerline of the five bearing lubrication holes. Lubrication will still
occur in the fourth position with the same Bijur metering unit. The size of
the five bearing lubrication holes in the head will be slightly reduced in size.
The reduction of the lube hole size will assist in redirecting the lube oil
onto the O.D. of the Revolving Head and into the gravity lube channel. Gravity
will force the excess lube into the channel, which will the consistently provide
lubrication and extend the life of all five spindle bearings. The most significant
benefit of the gravity lube channel will be that the lube oil will be forced
by gravity into the first & second positions that experience the heaviest
work loads form the front and rear cross slides. The gravity lube channel will
not increase the amount of lube oil required to operate the machine.
The inclusion of a wear size gear allows the frame thrust counterbore
to be resurfaced and axial spindle placement to be conserved.

DESIGN CONCEPTS
- ALL SPINDLES CONTINOUSLY LUBRICATED.
- LUBRICATION NOW PRESENT AT INCOMPLETE INDEX STATION; SPINDLE SEIZURE
IS VIRTUALLY ELIMINATED. THIS CAN OCCUR AT ANYTIME DURING RUNNING.
- RESERVE OF OIL IN SYSTEM GROOVE SMOOTHES / STABILIZES OIL FLOW , CREATES
BATH OF OIL FOR 1ST & 2ND POSITION BEACUSE OF GRAVITY.
- 360 DEGREE LUBRICATION OF HEAD BOSS/JOURNALS.
- UNIFORM LUBRICATION OF ALL SPINDLES ALL THE TIME.
- 2 TO 30 SECONDS: MACHINE TYPICAL CUTTING (HIGH PRESSURE) TIME THE
OLD SYSTEM CAN ALLOW METAL TO METAL CONTACT DUE TO NO LUBRICATION EXCEPT IN
ONE POSITION.
- PREVIOUS SYSTEM : SERIAL LUBRICATION OR SPINDLE LUBRICATED ONE AT
A TIME.
LUBRICATION WHERE HIGH CUTTINGS FORCE ON LOWER SPINDLES HAVE HIGHEST AMOUNT
OF LUBRICATION. FOUR OF FIVE SPINDLES WILL NOT RECEIVE LUBE FOR UP TO 5 INDEXES
TO BE LUBRICATED, OR APPROXIMATELY A MAXIMUM OF 3 MINUTES.
- NOWAK SYSTEM: PARALLEL LUBRICATION OR SPINDLES LUBRICATED ALL TOGETHER.
- MACHINE INDEX BY NATURE (IN DIRECTION OF ROTATION) WILL DELIVER OIL
TO THE LOWER, HIGHER PRESSURE, CUTTING SPINDLES. THESE LOWER POSITION SPINDLES
WORK THE HARDEST OF ALL FIVE. THIS DUTY CYCLE DICTATES THAT A LARGE PERCENTAGE
OF LUBE IS IS CONSUMED. THE NOWAK SYSTEM PROVIDES OPPORTUNITY FOR DELIVERY
AND RESERVE THROUGH OUT THE HIGH PRESSURE, FORMING OPERATION POSITIONS. SPINDLES
A & B ARE THE "LOWER" HIGH SIDE RADIAL CUTTING PRESSURE SPINDLE.
- REDUCED BEARING FRICTION MINIMIZED HEAT AND ATTENDANT WEAR. PROMOTING
LONGER COMPONENT LIFE.
