Wedge Chuck Assembly for Hand Clutch

NP-200

FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS FOR EASY INSTALLATION OF WEDGE
CHUCK ASSEMBLY FOR THE HIGH SPEED CLUTCH P/N NP-300
OR THE HAND CLUTCH P/N NP-200

NOTE: TO INSTALL ONLY THE HIGH SPEED CLUTCH P/N NP-200 FOLLOW
THOSE DIRECTIONS PRECEDED BY THE *

NOTE: If water soluble coolant is used on the machine,
it may be necessary to REMOVE THE CP-28 (permanent
LUBRICANT) FROM THE NP-200 AND NP-300.
Some water soluble coolants react chemically with the
CP-28, causing a hardening of the lubricant and severe
damage to the NP-200 and NP-300 wedge chucking units.

NOWAK recommends that when using a water soluble
coolant, the CP-28 be REMOVED from the NP-200 and
NP-300 and REPLACED with 20 weight Lubricating oil.
Lubricate the units at Least once per shift or as need.

NOWAK PRODUCTS, INC. assumes no responsibility
for damage done to wedge chuck units if water soluble
coolants are used.

-check for twisting and excessive key slot wear
         -replace shaft if necessary
      *b. hand clutch shaft
-check fro excessive key slot wear and driven
          gear screw slippage
         -replace shaft if necessary

    3. To reassemble high speed clutch shaft
      a. replace replace fulcrum and fulcrum driving clutch sleeve
         P/N 5080-167 with NP-300
      b. insert bronze driving clutch washer P/N 5080-105
      c. Note: large end of the high speed clutch must push
against the bronze driving clutch washer. The
slots in the rear of the NP-300 are for the 3/16 " pins

        P/N NP-200-1 of the NP-200
*b. the face of the davenport driving clutch body
P/N 5512-1 must be turned or ground square to the
I.D. of the driving clutch body
NOTE: FAILURE TO COMPLETE STEP 4B WILL
RESULT IN SHORTENED SHAFT & WEDGE CHUCK
       LIFE.
*c. replace the driving clutch friction disc P/N 5611 if
       necessary
    *d. reassemble hand clutch shaft

*5. Reassemble machine in reverse order as listed in
       Step 1.

    1. re-time machine using timing cams.

    2. Adjustment
      *a. Hand Clutch
         - tighten the adjusting nut until normal pressure
is felt at the hand lever
         - be sure the hand clutch NP-200 is completely
closed or the machine may come out of gear
      b. High Speed Clutch
         - jog the machine into high speed index
         - close NP-300 completely by adjusting the high
speed clutch fork lever P/N 5080-77
         - jog the machine into work cycle
         - with machine stopped, manually check that high
speed clutch outer housing P/N NP-300 turns
          freely
         - continue to adjust high speed chuck fork
lever until outer housing turns freely
         - recheck high speed clutch closing gap
         - max gap should be .125" between outerhousing
           P/N NP-300-2 & pressure collar P/N NP-300-1
         - adjust high speed clutch fork lever up or down until
free turning & acceptable closing gap are attained
      c. Do not Overtighten the NP-300
         - wedges may not lock up during high speed
           index
         - SEVER DAMAGE WILL OCCUR TO THE UNIT
         - CHECK FOR PROPER TENSION AFTER EACH
          CHANGE IN ADJUSTMENT NUT

    3. NOTE: It takes approximately 3-4 days of running to
break in a new high speed clutch. Several adjustments
may be necessary during this period.
