Acme
Wedge Chuck Installation Instructions
The Acme Wedge Chuck is designed to retrofit easily on your machine.
The unit is lubricated prior to shipment and does not require any immeadiate
lubrication. Reference lubrication instructions for frequency
and volume. All Acme Wedge Chuck Assemblies are designed with a holding pin
system that keeps the unit closed without the use of the spool cam. We DO
NOT recommend replacing the old spool cam that is on the machine when converting
to Nowak Wedge Chucking. Follow these simple instructions for easy installation.
- Remove:
a. Pusher tubes
b. Spindle collects
c. Collet tube nuts
d. collet tubes
e. Screw for finger holder
f. Finger holder assemblies
- Clean all parts throughly.
- Slide Nowak Wedge Chuck Assembly on to the spindle. Replace clamp screw
and torque to the same tension as with the finger holder. DO NOT USE LOCTITE
THREADLOCKER OR EQUIVALENT TO RETAIN CLAMP SCREW.
- Repeat Step 3 for all spindles
- Replace:
a. Collet tubes
b. Collet tube nuts
NOTE: The wedge chuck requires the use of collet tube nut only.
c. Spindle collets
d. Pusher tubes
- a. The Acme Wedge Chuck Assembly does require more closing face to achieve
the same collet tension as the original design - finger holder assembly.
b. Adjust the Acme Wedge Chuck Assembly according to the part application.
CAUTION: THE WEDGE DESIGN IS A RIGID SYSTEM AND IS NOT FLEXIBLE LIKE
THE FINGER HOLDER ASSEMBLY. A SLIGHT TURN OF THE COLLET TUBE NUT WILL
CHANGE THE COLLET TENTION DRAMATICALLY. SEVERE DAMAGE WILL RESULT FROM
OVERTIGHTENING.
c. Explain to machine operator about adjustment and increased closing
force requirements.
***DO NOT TEST RUN MACHINE WITHOUT
COLLET TUBES/COLLETS***
